Gu Shiming is Heilongjiang provincial representative inheritor of birch bark painting, an intangible cultural heritage. He is the director of the Jiamusi birch-bark painting research center. His art skills are profound due to his long engagement in professional art. Since 2013, he has been committed to the development of birch bark painting.
He skillfully combined the color, light, and shadow of aesthetic conception in Western oil painting with the natural texture of birch bark. He then integrated the technique of Chinese landscape painting to make the rough birch bark more vital, thus promoting the traditional folk craft of birch bark to a new level. He has created more than one hundred 3D lifelike, elegant artworks of birch bark.
